Welding Screens vs Welding Curtains vs Welding Blankets
The terms welding screen, welding curtain, and welding blanket (or drape) are often used somewhat interchangably, and while there are no hard and fast rules, some typical definitions and differences are as follows:
Welding Curtain: Semi-transparent material, primarily designed to shield other work areas from harmful UV & IR welding rays, whilst allowing visibility through the curtain for safety and situational awareness. Usually flexible PVC coloured material in 'sheet' form with eyelets for attaching to a curtain rail or mobile frame, or in strip form to allow traffic to pass through the curtain.
Welding Screen: The purpose of a welding screen is very similiar to a curtain, however the term screen can be used where the material is: more rigid and/or more of a permenant fixture, and/or intended to provide a physical barrier against sparks and spatter, in addition to a visual barrier against welding arc rays. Sometimes welding screens can be non-transparent, such as canvas material, or a welding blanket used as a vertical barrier.
Welding Blanket (or Welding Drape): Used to protect objects and surfaces from the sparks, spatter, and slag generated during welding or cutting processes. Welding blankets are typically used in inclined or horizontal positions, however they can also be used as vertical screens.
What Are Welding Screens?
Welding screens are protective barriers used in welding environments to shield workers from sparks, UV radiation, and debris generated during welding processes. These screens are typically made from materials that can withstand high temperatures and sparks, such as flame-retardant fabrics or transparent materials like PVC or polycarbonate. They come in various sizes and configurations to create safe work areas, prevent accidents, and protect nearby personnel from hazards associated with welding operations.
What Are Welding Curtains?
Welding curtains are similar to welding screens but are designed to be more flexible and versatile. They are made from materials that resist high temperatures, UV radiation, and sparks, such as flame-retardant PVC or other specialised fabrics. Welding curtains can be used to create temporary or semi-permanent barriers around welding areas, helping to protect other workers from harmful UV & IR welding rays, and prevent contamination of the work area. They are often used in combination with curtain tracks or frames to allow for easy adjustment and movement.
