Wire - Hardfacing PLATINUM SD-980 (Solid)
SD-980 hard-facing MIG welding wire is a versatile and easy-to-use "all-rounder". Being a solid wire, PLATINUM SD-980 is easy to apply and is all-positional. Ideal for applications where abrasion resistance is required, and especially when accompanied by shocks and blows. The weld can handle abrasion, moderate-to-high impact and metal-to-metal wear. Commonly used on excavator buckets and teeth, screws and augers, tracks, crushing jaws/wheels, etc. Available in 1.2mm in 15kg or 4.5kg spools. Requires minimum 120 amps. Use with Ar+CO2 mixed gas.

- Available in 15kg and 4.5kg spools
APPLICATION INFO:
- Weld can handle abrasion, moderate-to-high impact and metal-to-metal wear
- Very suitable for all types of ground engaging equipment; excavator buckets and teeth, points, tynes, screws and augers, tipper bodies
- Especially suited for components subject to abrasive wear AND impact (shocks & blows); crushing jaws/wheels, etc
- Also used for metal-to-metal applications such as: excavator tracks, pulleys (incl drag-line pulleys), etc
- Typical hardness 54-58 HRc / 535-600 HB
OPERATOR INFO:
- Use with Ar-CO2 mixed gas
- Polarity: DC+ (wire/torch positive, earth negative)
- Typical parameters: 120-270A (19-30V)
- Buffer layer: Not normally required. In case of hard-to-weld steels, use buffer layer of basic electrodes or flux-cored wire.
- Pre-Heat: Not normally required, unless to minimise relief-checking (micro cracking)
- Suitable for multi-layering (up to 3 layers)
WHAT ELSE?
- Surface will normally relief-checks (forms fine cracks) after welding
- Weld deposit is NOT machineable
- Weld deposit IS grind-able
